In the last few years, as their popularity has risen to unexpected proportions, Brassroots have grown very comfortable bouncing around the globe. 2011 and 2012 were the busiest years to date for the band with 2013--2014 proving to be even bigger and better again. The band has moved on in huge leaps and bounds from its origins as sought-after East London party band to sought-after international globe-trotting party band! Over the years Brassroots has collaborated with an eclectic range of artists from Martha Reeves, to Coolio, to Rudimental and has been hosted by some amazing venues and companies such as Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, Ronnie Scott's, Channel 4 and numerous more.
One of this year's main objectives was to expand Brassroots' educational work. The band has successfully achieved this by hosting and/or participating in several workshops for WOMAD and felt very privileged that other organizations have also taken the band into schools in England, Spain, Ireland, Switzerland, and Malta.
In and around the hectic schedule, the band finally found time to get into the studio and document the journey - Black Eye Friday is the result. We are extremely proud of this record. It's been such a long time coming but we are very grateful to be able to do it the way we wanted. A lot was learned about music, life, art, hard work and ourselves. We had the best time ever making it, which we hope will be evident as you listen.
