Dalot is a project by Maria Papadomanolaki originally conceived in 2004 as an informal outlet for experimental composition. Throughout the years the project has been exposed to a multitude of music cultures and genres encountered through Papadomanolaki’s life in the UK and the US from 2004 to present; an experience that helped her project grow into what it sounds today. She cites early post-rock, noise rock, abstract quitar-based music, ambient, shoegaze and minimal electronica as equally important influences, however through Dalot she tries to sculpt a new territory where all these merge and form a delicate personal sonic language.
In 2010, Papadomanolaki joined the n5MD stable where she has released two full length albums (Loop Over Latitudes, Minutestatic) and remixes on some of the label’s compilations. Other, non-n5MD, releases include Flight Sessions EP (Coorecords, GR), EP 1 (Radical Matters, IT) as well as contributions to compilations by other labels and fellow artist’s releases. Her third full length entitled HAIKUS 23, a project dedicated to the people who backed her Kickstarter campaign to help fund her EU Tour in 2011, was released as a free download on her bandcamp page in February 2012. Following the album's release, filtig created a series of visual interpretations of the songs.
Papadomanolaki has aldo composed music for short-film, dance and multimedia projects. Recent collaborations include work for the AHRC funded project "par-a-phrase" by Marina Tsatsara as well as "ChatRooms" by Detour Collective. Since 2010, she has presented her work in selected live performances in the US and the EU, with highlights being her European Tour with port-royal, Crisopa, winterlight, absent without leave and dergar as well as her participation in Seattle-based Decibel Festival 2012 where she shared the stage with Brock Van Wey (bvdub) and Robert Henke (Monolake).
